Lying northeast of Vancouver, the largest city in British Columbia, is the municipality of Maple Ridge. Named after the maple trees that populate the area, this city of 70,000 is located between the Fraser River on the south and a huge Provincial Park on the north. Despite being located just 27 miles east of Vancouver, much of the area displays breathtaking scenery.
 

Maple Ridge lies in an idyllic setting with only 259 people per square. This makes the area perfect for many recreational activities and viewing of the natural beauty. For those interested in camping and hiking, there are numerous spectacular parks nearby. 
 

The Golden Ears Provincial Park is one of the better known parks in the area and offers terrific facilities. This popular park boasts great hiking, boating and camping. There are numerous well maintained campgrounds with some that are near Lake Alouette and Gold Creek.

A top attraction of Maple Ridge is their outstanding horseback riding. There are over 60 miles of trails with another 35 miles available in Golden Ears Park. These trails can accommodate all skill levels from the beginning rider as well as the top competitors. 

For the history buffs, there is plenty to see and do in Maple Ridge. The Maple Ridge Museum, located in a home built in 1907, displays pioneer photos and artifacts along with a miniature railroad.


 

Over the past few years Maple Ridge has began to develop a reputation as a hub for electrifying festivals and events. Each year awesome events like the Jazz and Blues Festival, the Maple Ridge Fair, and the Santa Claus Parade draw many visitors to the area.

The St. John the Devine Church is another site worth visiting. Built in 1859, it is still located on the original foundation; it is the oldest church in British Columbia.
 

Golf is not neglected in Maple Ridge either. There are numerous golf courses nearby but the most notable is the 36 hole Meadow Gardens Golf Course. The course intertwines nature into each hole with spectacular views and challenging obstacles of water, sand, and tree covered mounds.
 

Maple Ridge is located in a beautiful natural setting with a myriad of activities.  Discovering this community  will not disappoint even those with the highest expectations.
